Latest rumor has it that Kevin Kalkhoven is pissed at TG and has threatened him with leaving IRL - together with other teams that came from Champ Car - if the series won't change its attitude towards CC teams and help the transition as promised. Word is that KK is even threatening with a new open-wheeled series. And supposedly Gerry Forsythe is the instigator of this latest spat.
Very likely nothing extraordinary will happen because of it, but that shows there is a lot to current politics that we do not know. _________________

Wonder who actually owns the rights to the name CART as a sanctioning body?? Did ftg get it as part of the split, or is it still owned by GF or KK???? Who knows, maybe the Long Beach GP owns the rights to it... or Cosworth?? _________________

^^^I believe FTG got the rights to ChampCar and CART in the deal.
It would amaze me if FKK a) started a series and b) anyone followed his lying ass. (talk about lemmings)

At the moment this Crapwagon rumor should be considered as a pure fantasy - even Robin Miller didn't float this one (yet). _________________

Don't know the answer to this one, but worst come to worst they could always use IMSA for a sanctioning body...
As far as the whole concept is concerned - I had this crazy dream last night =>
Back in the old days - when Bernie was tinkering with buying CART, as were Gerry Forsythe and Craig Pollock - two names for the new series were floated: "American Grand Prix Series" (Pollock) and "Formula America" (Forsythe)... Kalkhoven kicked Pollock out not much later, and a useless domain by name of "Formula America" opened up in Mexico (not active in over 2 years, btw)...
So now we have disenchanted GF pacing the sidelines trying to figure out his next move, and we have disenchanted KK stuck in IRL...
So let's suppose that GF will be able to persuade KK and other ex Champ Car owners to defect and form their own series anew...
And it wouldn't be that difficult to do:
a/ get the new LLC by-laws incorporated
b/ get IMSA to sanction the new series
c/ get Panoz to modify the existing Panoz DP01's
d/ KK still owns Cosworth - so engines are in place
e/ get a schedule - where Atlantics and/or ALMS will play a second fiddle
Yes, that escapade would cost quite a few million dollars, but GF has sunk so much a few more won't matter to him and KK still has more $$$ than there are penguins...
Then we have a "dilemma" with cars... the way I see it could happen is:
Forsythe - 4 cars
Kalkhoven - 2 cars
Haas/Lanigan - 3 cars
Walker - 2 cars
Wiggins - 2 cars
Coyne - 2 cars
Bachelart - 2 cars
Tadevic/Figge - 2 cars
Gentilozzi - 2 cars
21 could be the optimal number, but 17 would be enough for a start...
As far as the schedule would be concerned here's what I can see:
March: HOUSTON, TX - street course
April: LONG BEACH, CA - street course
April: ??? ORLANDO, FL - street course
May: MONTEREY, CA - road course
May: MONTERREY, Mexico - road course
June: PORTLAND, OR - road course
June: CLEVELAND, OH - airfield course
July: ST.JOVITE, Canada - road course
July: EDMONTON, Canada - airfield course
August: ELKHART LAKE, WI - road course
August: TOOLE, UT - road course
September: ??? MILLVILLE, NJ - road course
September: ??? RACIFE, Brazil - street course
October: ??? CAPESTOWN, RSA - street course
October: SURFERS PARADISE, Australia - street course
November: MEXICO CITY, Mexico - road course
November: LAS VEGAS, NV - street course
So a 13-17 race schedule could be attained...
As for TV = back to buy-time on Speed we go - maybe a couple races on major network...
Adding it all up = IT COULD BE ACHIEVED ?!
Problem is that this is just a dream that I had... and pretty sure so did GF and plenty others... ... ... ...let's cross our fingers and wait for Santa to come... _________________

^^^I believe that is only on the ownership front^^^ But you can take your team and race anywhere you like. I would back this idea in a nano second
As for the Schedule...drop every CART/Champcar track and start with all new tracks as this will complete the "new" series. 10-USA tracks every 2-weeks apart and you have a knockout. They will come back in bunches. _________________ A Race fan of CART/ChampCar, MotoGP , F1 & NHRA

One major problem - MONEY.
Pissed or not, Kalkhoven has NO credibility after lying through his teeth to all of CCWS and everyone involved in it. If he was to try that, he wouldn't get far, and is IMSA gonna burn bridges with the IRL after getting into Long Beach and gaining some crossover? Probably not, definitely not to help out that fat lying Aussie bastard. If him and Gore are pissed, tough shit. They made their bed. If they didn't want this, they woulda played big and fixed CC for good three years ago, like they should have.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see that. I really would. But its a chimera, it's not gonna happen. |
