2011 Schedule Update:
Latest from the Grapevine is that IRL are already working on the 2011 schedule and news aren't too good - their plan is for an 18-19 race schedule but quite a few mainstays are iffy... but Rio de Janeiro (location pics above) shall stay as a season opener
Here's how the scenario for 2011 looks like:
1. March 13 - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - street course
2. ??? March 20 - Houston, TX or Baltimore, MD - street course
3. March 27 - St.Petersburg, FL - street/airfield course
4. April 10 - Birmingham, AL - road course
5. April 17 - Long Beach, CA - street course
6. ??? May 1 - Kansas City, KS - oval track or Foxboro, MA - street course
7. May 29 - Indianapolis, IN - oval track
8. June 4 - Ft.Worth, TX - oval track (Sat nite race)
9. June 19 - Newton, IA - oval track
10. ??? July 3 - Cleveland, OH - airport/street course or Watkins Glen, NY - road course
11. July 17 - Toronto, Canada - street course
12. July 24 - Edmonton, Canada - airfield course
13. ???August 7 - Lexington, OH - road course
14. ??? August 21 - Sonoma, CA - road course
15. August 27 - Joliet, IL - oval track (Sat nite race)
16. September 3 - Sparta, KY - oval track (Sat nite race)
17. September 18 - Motegi, Japan - oval track
18. ??? September 25 - Qingdao, China - road (or street) course
19. ??? October 8 - Homestead, FL - oval track
^ Of course, some dates are subject to change... and since we can only expect maximum of 19 races then some of those question marks shall vanish...
===================================
And here are other venues that may be under consideration for 2011 and/or near future:
1. Elkhart Lake, WI - (Road America) road course
2. Belle Isle, MI - street course
3. Loudon, NH - oval track
4. Las Vegas, NV - street course or oval track
5. Portland, OR - road course
6. Monterey, CA - (Laguna Seca) road course
7. Nashville, TN - street course
8. Monterrey, Mexico - road course
9. Vancouver, Canada - street course
10. Mexico City, Mexico - road course
11. St.Jovite, Canada - (Mt.Tremblant) road course
12. Tooele Valley, UT - road course
13. Millville, NJ - (Thunderbolt) road course
...the saga shall continue...

From what I hear:
a/ Milwaukee, WI = won't happen again - they owe money to IRL and no new promoter will step in and cover the costs
b/ Loudon, NH = they are pissed at Angstadt that he is planning to bring a race around the Gillette Stadium in 2012 - so this won't fly
c/ Brazil = there won't be a second race - that Angstadt bs has already been shot down
d/ Houston, TX = if the "Cleveland GP" will get a go so will the Houston street race - Mike Lanigan runs both
e/ Kansas City, KC = this roundy-roundy is next on shit list - thanks to it being an ISC track -> most likely a Baltimore street race will take its place
f/ Cleveland, OH = Angstadt says that it will definitely be on in 2011 - which means that Watkins Glen will either move down or depart
g/ China = will definitely be on in 2011
And Sonoma, and Mid-Ohio, are iffy to stay on the schedule due to small gate turnout - most likely both will get dropped.
So, things will look quite different come 2011... or so I hope. _________________

IndyCar racing in the streets of Baltimore by 2011 ?
A local group is in what's being called "serious negotiations" to put an IndyCar grand prix race on the streets of Baltimore.
The Baltimore Sun says the group wants to start the race in 2011 near the Inner Harbor, where organizers hope it could be as big as the Preakness in terms of economic impact and national exposure.
The Sun says an economic impact study estimates the race could bring in as much as 100 million dollars to the city, and would be patterned after other IndyCar series street races that are already running in cities including Toronto, St. Petersburg and Long Beach, California. |

Don't know how serious Baltimore is, but it's fun........... and at the same time we have Cleveland, Houston, Portland, Road America, and few others vying for a spot. _________________

2011 Schedule Update:
Latest tidbits from the Grapevine:
a/ as per Terry Angstadt - the 2011 schedule will be 18-19 races...
b/ FIVE new locations are currently being considered for possible addition:
1. FOXBORO, MA - street course => actually the course will be around the new Patriots' stadium (pic above) - mainly through the parking lots...
2. QINGDAO, China - road course (when it's built; street course prior to it)...
3. CLEVELAND, OH - airport/street course (at Burke Airport)...
4. HOUSTON, TX - street course (around the Reliant Centre)...
5. BALTIMORE, MD - street course (in the marina region)...
And latest word is that the concept of returning to the infamous "Milwaukee Mile" is dead and buried ?!
Now, all 5 of them won't happen, but there are 3 current venues that do face a possibility of an axe - all thanks to ISC (who aren't turning any profit from IndyCar races, btw): Kansas, Watkins Glen, and Homestead...
Soooooo, we shall see...
Here's how the scenario for 2011 looks like:
1. March 13 - Rio De Janeiro, Brazil - street course
2. ??? March 20 - Houston, TX - street course

Sonoma and Kentucky aren't going anywhere. Bruton likes Indycars and their attendance is decent enough.
Don't be so quick to assume Toronto is staying... |

OK, let me expand your horizons:
1/ Sonoma and Kentucky numbers may be "decent" but both races suck and Angstadt is thinking of alternatives...
2/ the Brazilian kaka looks like it won't happen - shades of Gruntolozzi here...
3/ between Kansas, Homestead, and Watkins Glen - looks like at least one of 'em ISC venues won't be back !!!!!
4/ between Cleveland and Houston - at least one of them will happen...
5/ between Foxboro and Baltimore - one of them will happen for sure...
6/ and the Chinese race most likely will materialize...
And then you will have to consider which two current races will get dumped... and the short list is - in order of possibility:
1/ Kansas
2/ Homestead
3/ Watkins Glen
4/ Kentucky
So take your pick... the moral of this story is that ovals are biting dust and street shows are now the IN thing...
How long will that concept last ?? - who the hell knows, ask the ex-CART hunchos what they think... _________________

^ That's how the track lay-out in Salvador, Brazil looks like - very fuckin' idiotic (if you'd ask me).

Officials are commited to reviving Detroit Grand Prix, hope for improved economy
The Detroit Grand Prix at Belle Isle will be off the IndyCar Series schedule for the second consecutive year in 2010, but the race's infrastructure remains in place to reactivate the event, according to DGP chairman Bud Denker. The right economic climate, however, is critical.
"We've got all these assets that we bought--from the barrier walls to the fencing to the infrastructure, it's all sitting in our downtown warehouse, and there's depreciation," Denker told AutoWeek. "We invested more than $6 million on Belle Isle, and that investment is still there. Roads, the drainage, the lighting, the landscaping, the casino, the fountain. It was a total retrofit. We contributed to have the event there for years and years."
The Grand Prix, run under Roger Penske's leadership in 2007 and 2008, reportedly boosted the local economy to the tune of $50 million. Denker said Penske's team will know when to go back to its partners for sponsorship dollars because "we know their business" as partners in the automotive industry. |

That's what hunchos at PlanetLeMans.com are saying, btw. _________________
